World Expos serve as a platform for all nations to get together and introduce to the world the newest and best of what they have achieved in science, culture and economy. Expos also serve as a platform for nations to establish their own "nation branding".
During World Expos, many different ideas have been introduced for the first time, even some that were considered radical, such as: electric cars, escalators, and the telephone. A lasting landmark is usually left behind after a World Exposition has concluded, such as The Space Needle in Seattle, The Atomium in Brussels and The Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) regulates the frequency and quality of World Exhibitions. For a list of previous World Expos please click here or visit the website of BIE at www.bie-paris.org
